Since my Tribest blender arrived the other day, I have been consuming at least 2 green smoothies a day and loved every one so far! It is just so simple and 'mess free' using this machine and I consider it 'money well spent' for sure :0)
I picked some fresh oranges from the orange trees at work this morning and incorporated their juice in with my lunch time smoothie. I had to take a photo of them because I have never seen so many pips in oranges like these ones before and they are so juicy too.
LOULOU'S LUNCHTIME GREEN SMOOTHIE
- juice of 4 small freshly picked oranges
- 1 cup hand grown kale leaves
- 1/2 large carrot chopped
- 1/2 large apple peeled and chopped
- a handful of lambs lettuce
- 4 sprigs of fresh mint from the garden
- 1 chunk peeled ginger (I like a decent size chunk)
- 1 T Hemp oil
- 1 T Borage oil
- filtered water to top up the OJ
- 2 T Purple corn flour
Hemp oil contains essential fatty acids (EFA's) which can lower the risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol levels, has anti-inflammatory properties and can improve the immune system amongst being high in Omega 3 and many other benefits.
Borage oil contains GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid) in terms of essential fatty acids, it can act as an anti-inflammatory and helps regulate blood circulation. It is also known to aid in PMS prevention and menopausal symptons too.

Purple corn flour is high in antioxidant benefits. It aids in skin aging prevention due to it's ability to promote the formation of collagen. The anthocyanin (what makes it purple) and antioxidant levels are 4 times the amount found in blueberries - and we have all been told how wonderfully good for us blueberries are!! It is mostly cultivated in Peru.
One thing I have noticed on my green smoothie adventure with this blender, is that it does have a bit of trouble completely blending up kale for some reason, probably due to it's high fibrous content but I must admit, this doesn't bother me as I am used to 'chewing' my juices (and now smoothies) so it doesn't put me off. It seems to be fine in blending up all the other greens I have used so far with no problems.
